Importance of the Home
Personal visits are the very core of what we do. They’re centered around our nationally certified Parent Educators meeting their clients where they are and building meaningful relationships. We don’t go into the home and point out all of the things that the parents aren’t doing correctly, but rather, we focus on what is working and build on that.
During personal visits, Parent Educators discuss developmentally appropriate expectations through the use of the Parents as Teachers curriculum. This curriculum translates information on early brain development into concrete information for families. Simple, fun, easy-to-do activities that are age-appropriate are facilitated to encourage stimulating interaction between parents and children. Reading, even at an early age, is encouraged at every visit through a book-sharing exercise.
These visits are usually conducted in the home on a monthly, weekly or bi-monthly basis depending on the schedule and availability of the family.
